2011 Hall of Fame Inductees

October 29th, the Federation annual Hall of Fame Dance was held in Hendersonville.  Representing the Hall of Fame Committee,  Paul & Marge Christiansen  announced the Inductions of JIM & SANDY BUCKNER and RON & JAN PARTIN to the Western Carolina Square Dance Hall of Fame

Established in 1993, the Hall of Fame was created to honor those dancers, callers and cuers for outstanding dedication to the promotion and growth of square dance in western Carolina.  Over the past two decades, 34 couples and individuals have been inducted into the Hall.  Currently,  22 of those inductees are still active.


In a special ceremony during the dance, Certificates were presented to the Buckners & Partins in recognition for their outstanding commitment to the promotion & growth of Western Square Dancing, including:

Jim & Sandy Buckner 

  • Dancing  30  years in the Western Carolina area, Currently members of the Mountain Mixers
  • Held office Of President for  2 years and Co-Vice Presidents  1 Year
  • Served as Treasurer & Assistant Treasurer  (1 year each)
  • Club Historian For  10  Years
  • Website delegate  7 years and publicity  3 years
  • Delegates to Western Carolina Federation  5 years

Ron & Jan Partin

  • Dancing For 11-Yrs With Southern Lights, Double AA’s and Shadowcasters  (2 years each)
  • Served As  Southern Lights President For 1 year, On the board as  Past President  1 year and secretary  2 years
  • Club Webmaster For 7  years
  • Nominating Committee  2 years and coordinator used clothing sale  1-Year
  • Worked with onsite Registration Committee for 56th  National Square Dance Convention In Charlotte in 2007
  • Keynote speaker At 56th National Square Dance Convention  at Charlotte in 2007
  • Western Carolina Federation Webmaster For  7 years

Square Dancers All,

    The Square Dancing Community came through loud and clear in support of the Northrup Family. Benefit Dance Oct 16th. There were over 12 squares, some 60 items donated for the auction, and over $4500 raised.  To all who came, to all who donated, and to all who planned and worked so hard, "THANK Y'ALL".

A special thanks to the callers who gave their time and talent, Ken Perkins, Jerry Biggerstaff, Jim Duncan, Jim Roper, and Bill Restall. To Steve and Susan Garwood for a great job of handling the auction a special thanks.  To everyone who made this all possible, thank you, thank you, and again thank you from the Northrup Family.
