Smoke on the mountain has not deterred square dancers in and around Macon County! In fact, dance classes and regularly scheduled dances are reasons to stay healthy during this extremely dry fall of fires we are experiencing.
While our fall dance class has consisted of only two students, the two ladies and angels are looking forward to graduation on Monday, November 28. Somewhat seasonal grads, they have added tremendous enthusiasm to our healthy club.
High Mountain Square’s participation in the Western North Carolina Hospice Dance paid great dividends for Macon County Hospice. The grand total for WNF was $5,161, while $1,469.81 came back to Macon. HMS sold 1150 tickets, over 500 more than any other club, thanks to all participating members.
Jeff and Molly Foster, new club members, have developed and are now manning our Face Book page, “High Mountain Squares.” Check us out. Changes are coming in our 2017 schedule; therefore, you will want to be on top of those changes.
The major change will be in our location(s) for our dances for part of the late winter and early spring. Macon County plans to renovate the Community Building where we meet on first, third, and fifth Fridays. That renovation process may take up to a month, possibly longer in “mountain time.” Presently, we do not have projected beginning and ending dates of renovation.
December promises to be a busy, exciting month for square dancers. Our annual Toys for Tots dance will be on Sunday, December 4. Jim Duncan will be calling his favorite Christmas songs. Marines from the local chapter will be collecting the many toys for the area’s less fortunate children. Admission to the dance is an unwrapped toy(s) for girls or boys. Come share the excitement!
Two more dances complete the December calendar: Ace McGee will be calling our Christmas Dance on Friday, December 16. Our fifth Friday dance falls on the Eve of New Year’s Eve. Come celebrate year’s end with Ken Perkins and Mike McDonald and Debbie McClain on December 30.
The following are tentative dances for January and February:
January 6 Baby, It’s Cold Outside with Marty Northrup
January 20 Cowboy/Cowgirl Western Dance with Ken Perkins
February 3 Sweetheart Dance with Herb Franklin
February 17 Mardi Gras with Jim Duncan
High Mountain Squares dance Western Style Square Dancing, mainstream with announced plus tips first, third and fifth Fridays with some exceptions. Work shop from 6:15-6:45; dance 6:45-8:45 P.M. Early rounds at 6:15 on fifth Fridays. Check Face Book for changes in location during renovation of Macon County Community Building at 1288 Georgia Road.
